Nutrita d’amore

FRANCESCO VANNI’S EXHIBITION, SANTA CATERINA DRINKS THA BLOOD FROM THE COSTS OF CHRIST.

L’Opera della Metropolitana of Siena and Ufficio dei Beni culturali of archdiocese, in occasion of Dialoghi 2015, exposes the meaningful work of a sienese painter Francesco Vanni representing Santa Caterina who drinks the blood from the costs of Christ (1594 ), guarded in the convent of S. Girolamo, out of the great flows of visitors.

The painting is countersigned for its "strength of complexion... so lively" derivate by the famous painter Federico Barocci (Ettore Romagnoli) and the vibrating religious feeling. In fact the artist was a fervid catholic, belonging to the congregation of the Sacri Chiodi, brotherhood of relief in the diffusion of the Catholic Reform in Siena in the second half of ‘500.

It is considered most meaningful testimony of the Saint Catherine’s mystery of the Blood, as imitation, even by experience, of The Passion. The characters of the painting emerge from the shade of the background in a bright contrast of strong visual impact.

UNTIL 31/10/15 AT THE CRYPT OF THE DUOMO.
